When you pick Daisy Celebrations for a naming ceremony, as it is essentially a child centred one, I will try to inject some ‘magic’ and fun into it as well as ritual. I will ask you to tell me the story behind your choice of name – family links, history etc. My research will identify the origins of the names and relate this to the family situation. I will look for ways to include any siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents in addition to the parents and the baby.
The key elements of the ceremony are…
- Promises and commitments by the parents and chosen guardians based around caring for the baby until they are able to look after themselves – these can be devised in discussion with me, or alternatively, you can make up your own.
- Blessing the water which can be infused with relevant essential oils.
- Dedicating the name and using the water to ‘anoint’ the baby, possibly using a piece of the birthstone. Lighting candles to symbolically include the ancestors – eg deceased parents or grandparents.
- Discussion and explanation may be made regarding zodiac signs. If you have any significant objects or family heirlooms which you would like to include in the ceremony, then it can be included in the ritual.
